Description

The Carnival Attendants, also known as Carlas, are creations of Dr. Habit for the apparent sole purpose of manning the carnival attractions. As their name suggests, they reside in the Carnival, and host the games within it.

Attendants

Button Press Carla - An attendant who operates the Button Press game machine. Though they will catch you if you attempt to turn around and cheat during the game, they do not notice the pocket mirror. When the game is won, they award you Maynard.

They refer to themself as a "Merchant of Merryment," an "Automated Entertainer," a "Lover of Laughs," and a "Giver of Grins."

Fortune Teller Carla - A fortune teller who claims that their "knowledge is basically endless." They give the player hints, information, and background on any item that is brought to them. Their distinguishing trait is their wig.

Whack-A-Molar Carla - An attendant who operates the Whack-A-Molar game. Their booth is entirely optional, but they give prizes for beating their game the first two times. Fortune Teller Carla refers to them as "brother."

The first prize is the "Chunk of Attendant," a crumpled page of Dr. Habit's diary. The second prize is the Airhorn. This item has no impact on the story, but is fun to play around with.

Several other Carlas can be seen in the Habitat during the Big Event. However, they only say variations of the phrase "Heeheehee..." If the player does not cheer up the eleven Habiticians whose quests are not required to reach the ending, then those Habiticians- with object heads- will take the place of the Carlas.

Trivia

  • Besides the informal text-speech of Fortune Teller Carla, the other Carla's dialogue are full of Title Case and alteration (both spelling and phonetic). They also use ALL CAPS to convey strong 'emotion' when necessary, as seen when showing the Hand to Whack-A-Molar Carla and when showing the Y'owl to Fortune Teller Carla.
    • The Button Press Carla continuously calls the player short, in one way or another ("puny person," "tiny heart's content," "small fool,"). Whether this is because the player is short or the Carlas are tall is unknown.
  • The Carlas cannot be photographed.
    • Seeing as they are seen destroyed in various endings and steam trading cards, and how they refer to themselves as "automated," they are likely considered objects rather than characters.
  • They refer to Dr. Habit as "father" or "dad."
